That was an amazing update! I love how you give us Jack's "memories" and slowly reveal the reality of what happened. I can't believe there's only 1 more part left. :(.

Thank you! I figured that even though Jack was supposed to have been retconned, retcon is probably pretty dicey for kids, given their still-developing brains, and also the fact that the dosages are probably different and harder to get right. Given that, it's very easy to imagine that he would have only dim, selective memories of that night.

Only one more part left, indeed! I'll see you tomorrow!

I've always found the fairy episode interesting because of the emotions surrrounding a child being sacrificed. I really like how you got in depth with Jacks emotions and his reasons for wanting to save the child so bady. Now that we know about Grey it's doubly heartbreaking. I really feel for Jack & I can understand how he'd repress a memory like that for so long. Did they retcon Jack and he broke through the retcon or was it just natural suppression on Jacks part? You do such a fantastic job of getting into the emotions and motivations of the characters. The Jack/Grey story has always fascinated me, & this is such a great twist on it. I'm really happy to hear you're going to write a sequal. This is an amazing verse & I'd really love to see more. :D

Having just last night rewatched COE, believe me, thoughts on sacrificing children are very fresh on my mind.

Small Worlds worked incredibly well as the trigger that I needed to start the final Gray reveal--Jack is extremely affected by children, for obvious reasons, and for him to see Ianto handing the child over pushed the night of Gray's return right to the front of his mind, making it easy to trigger more of the memory.

As far as his memory goes, Jack was retconned, but as Torchwood doesn't retcon children very often, the dosage was a rough guess, on the conservative side. So Jack retained a partial, selective memory of the night, and easily broke through the rest with a few triggers.

I wouldn't say it's for sure that I'm writing a sequel! Just a possibility. I'd need to figure out what the hell to write about, first. *g*

Amazing story. You're doing a great job with the intense emotions. Look forward to more.

Thank you! This is probably the most emotional chapter, but I knew that I had to get emotions running high in order for Jack to break through the retcon. The last chapter is also intense, but not nearly as much as this one.

Oh that was gut wrenching. I'm sure Flat Holm and Jack seeing Gray will be even worse.

Not to give anything away, but... who said anything about Flat Holm? *g*

Aw, poor Jack. =[ The thing that is nagging me is "what the hell is Aberystwyth?" (or rather, what the hell is AT Aberystwyth?)

Aberystwyth is where Ianto found an adoptive family to take Gray in, after the Tabula Rasa was administered. It doesn't explicitly say it in the story, but this is where he was raised for the following eight years, and then he met his wife Claire at uni and they moved to a town just outside of Pembroke.

There's just so much to this 'verse that I couldn't cram into the story!
