"The princess!" he gasped against the tightness in his lungs. "We have to save her."
"Sure we do," the Captain said, flicking knobs and merrily pounding away at random buttons, causing the dirigible to snort and shudder and lurch in turns. "Just as soon as we figure out who took her in the first place."
"But we can follow her, their balloon -- "
"In old Song of the Day?" He banged on the dash of the dirigible and it let out an answering cough. "She'd never catch them."
"There is nothing more important than the princess's safety -- "

Victoria straightened her back, squared her shoulders, and looked the boy -- and he really was only a boy, he couldn't have been more than seventeen -- dead in the eye. "You can take me, kill me even, but you can never take my kingdom."
"Princess!" The boy tutted. "I have no intention of killing you. The kingdom needs her heir. I simply intend to -- " he took a delicate sip of his tea " -- assist you in ruling it. In a, you might say, nuptial capacity."
"I will die before I let you reign," was her cold response. "The day I marry you is the day the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, the day the seas dry and deserts drown, and the day time runs backwards."
His smile was downright gleeful. "Time travel? Dearest princess, the day might come sooner than you think."
