Where do we go for spiritual renewal? Where do you go when those jagged mountains of life rise up suddenly to take you by surprise or have finally overtaken you one notch at a time? When you are drowning in debt and are unable to rest? Where do you go? When your children aren’t acting right? Where do you go? When the folks in your life have become unfamiliar and strange?...
This is so powerful, this part especially, touching so specifically on all the ways we're broken -- I can't imagine at the end of this list that there was one person left in the congregation who hadn't identified with it, thinking, "that's me, she's talking to me."
And that's the response I most love to hear after preaching -- not "excellent sermon," not "great job," but "wow, you were preaching to me."
I agree! When I am told that "this message spoke to me" by people in the congregation I know I have truly been hidden behind the cross and the Holy Spirit has spoken. It is a powerful and humbling experience and whenever that happens I feel I too have been ministered to. Whenever this happens I feel I have been worshipping along side my brothers and sisters in the pews. Sometimes I imagine myself sitting in the pews listening to the message while I am delivering it. It is indeed a humbling experience.
