The automated announcements on the Luas are delivered in an assertive tone. When she says: 'Please move down the tram', her delivery stops just short of an exclamation mark and despite being appropriately seated you wonder how best to obey her. Dreamy. That's some finely poetic scolding.

Edward Hopper has acquired prophetic gravitas somehow, even though the world doesn't generally look much like his paintings anymore. He makes me nostalgic for a time when our alienation was solitary. Now you can buy it in vending machines.

Absolutely. To get that distance folk now wear sound-cancelling headphones on overcrowded trains. And the cityscapes: how early would you have to be up to see that much of no people?
