Amazon sells waterproof mattress protectors (I bought one with the brand name Luna) that are basically fitted sheets that go on under your fitted sheet. After spending $450 to replace the mattress cover (it's wool, so when I tried washing it, it felted and shrunk), I decided I needed some insurance against future accidents. There have been a few since then, but it has done its job extremely well. I imagine your mattress probably isn't easy to clean up, especially with how pungent cat urine can get, so you might consider getting one of these things!
