plot [the road so far]

Castiel showed up in Bete Noire October 6th, pretty damn beaten up from the time traveling he had done before he was kidnapped. He made an accidental voice post in which Deanne Winchester, T'Pol, John Winchester, and Ari Haswari replied. Castiel accidentally let it slip that he was injured while speaking with De, which prompted her to find him. Upon meeting, Castiel realized that De was Dean; but De did not know him. Castiel passed out after convincing her of being an angel, and she brought Castiel back to her apartment. Castiel is convinced there is another name for Bete Noire besides the City of Sin (Enoch.)

Unluckily for Cas, he showed up in Bete Noire in a time when Angels weren't exactly in good Graces. The Angel of Death had been trotting around for a while, and Lazarus had a plan to raise and make a deal with Satan. Castiel forced his way into this plan to raise Satan, feeling it would bring the Lucifer from his world to Bete Noire, and away from the Winchesters. Castiel speaks with the Angel of Death, and inadvertently meets Daimon Hellstrom, the son of Satan, while doing so. They get off on the wrong foot. Cas decides to continue his search for God here in Bete Noire, even if it seems improbable to find him.

While all this is going on, Castiel's Future Self shows up out of no where and they get off on the wrong foot too while John lurks for some answers and inadvertently tells Cas who he is. This is shortly followed up by De providing Cas a permanent home with her, and her father. Things go awesome as per usual with Cas. Another awesome thing in the personal life Cas seems to be roping in is that Joanna Beth Harvelle shows up. Castiel fails to create a good impression on Jo, because a) Jo doesn't know him, and b) he still feels guilty about what happened in Carthage. He doesn't tell her that she died.

While Cas is searching for God, a way out of Bete Noire, and helping Lazarus with his project (just a little), he's also freeloading off De. Castiel gets recruited to join a Secret Police Force within Bete Noire, and does okay. He gives the reward money to De.

Cas and Castiel have yet another unsucessful conversation and then Future Dean makes an appearance. This Dean at least knows Cas, but puts Cas in his place; making Cas more than a little reclusive. That is until Jo messages him! Too bad the message is about her and her mom dying. This doesn't help Castiel's spirits. Even better is Cas and De have a late night rendezvous which ends with more discomfort between them.

Then it's October 31st and it's time for Satan to be raised. Cas and Lazarus share a "what's our chance" moment before the actual thing goes down. Then it does. Castiel, upon Satan's raising, realizes that it's the wrong Lucifer, and flees, basically. Cas, yet again, has failed!! That doesn't stop Cas and Satan from talking for a bit. The conversation ends with Castiel completely shaken, and feeling pretty darn useless in the grand scheme of things.

Castiel is now on double duty, trying to keep an eye on Satan without getting gracesmited and keeping the Winchester's around Bete Noire protected. Things go well until Ruby makes herself known. This is followed by Sam and Dean's arrival in the city. They still don't know Cas, but Cas get's them up to speed on him being an Angel and creeps on them. Just a little. Then whoa! Something's wrong in Bete Noire! Lazarus looses his powers and people are seemingly going nuts. Deanne gets infected with the water, and Cas helps her out as much as he can. He meets Demon!Sam then, and winds up kinda saving his life much to Castiel's disgust (ew demons.) Nate Silverman pushes Castiel into a well of radiated water by accident, giving Cas the superpower of... ducklings. Dean and Cas discuss this just a little bit. Deanne has problems with her superpower and Cas offers his help. The offer is duly noted. Likewise, John is having issues with his new accommodations. Castiel gets interested.

Then finally, Cas gets accepted into the secret police force, and given his first mission. Two days later Jimmy Novak enters Bete Noire. Cas shanghais Jimmy to De's apartment, where Jimmy will stay. De and Jimmy meet while De is in her underwear. Cas doesn't care. It's then time to help John clean out his haunted as hell house. The ducklings help out as much as they can. Then water turning into blood. Cas is less than pleased, but at least the radiation powers start wearing off.

Castiel makes another accidental post, this time a video, and this time he's covered in blood from a mission he received from his job. Jo replies which then leads to him and her having a bit of a fallout. When John replies, he offers help, Future Cas and Castiel have a bitchfest, and Deanne learns where the money Castiel has been giving her comes from. Jimmy comes baring tsun, which ends very badly.

Oh, and then Satan announces the Apcolypse.

Anna, Castiel's fallen older sister that Castiel helped kill before he got kidnapped to Bete Noire, suddenly appears and Castiel has exactly 0% trust in her. He makes a warning post to the Winchester's, telling them to protect Mary Campbell who had recently shown up, and Sam. Dean and Castiel wind up talking about Hell, Ruby, and the future.

A day later on December 1st, Persephone rises, and Castiel automatically pins her as a Pagan God. Anna reaches out for help from Castiel pertaining the problem, but Castiel shoots her down. Future Dean is worse for wear and Castiel just takes the abuse as usual. Once again, Anna messages Castiel, but this time it's as an apology and her will and testament. She's determined to go to Babylon to try and fend off the Apocalypse. Cas gives her Dean's God-finding pendant. Anna has finally regained Castiel's trust. Shortly after, Deanne has a vision, and Castiel is very thoroughly freaked the fuck out. It gets even worse after Anna has one too. Anna addresses some of the fears Castiel feels towards her, and dispels them, making him trust her even more. He and Anna have one more discussion about theology, the pain Castiel feels, and she manages to give him some kind of comfort. Anna then jumps into Babylon.

In Anna's will, she said if she died, she would send her Grace to Castiel. He gets it approximately two or three days after she goes to Babylon. He keeps it in a vial around his neck. Castiel is unwilling to share how much that hurts. Unfortunately, that's not the only thing that goes wrong for Castiel. Mary, who he had sworn to protect, has disappeared, and so has Jimmy. Due to the Curse of Babel, this only makes Castiel extremely volatile. He cracks Deanne's jaw before fleeing the apartment, not to return. So he stalks Dean instead. This goes not as planned and he winds up breaking Dean's face rather impressively, while venting his anger at Dean. Castiel let's it slip that Sam has demon blood in him. The fight with Dean and suddenly being homeless makes Castiel acutely aware of how alone he is.

Then Anna returns. Castiel returns her Grace; but Anna gives Castiel the news that God plans on flooding Bete Noire, so Castiel refuses to take back Dean's pendant at this time. Anna then completely breaks Castiel's trust in her by saying that she's thinking of joining Lucifer. Castiel drowns his sorrows in a very Winchester way, as in he goes on a three day binge at Furor's. Castiel meets Lua Klein, Jo, Spike, and Balthier there. Castiel and Spike talk about how much it sucks to try and be human, and Balthier meets Castiel on the tail end of Castiel's third day of drinking, and manages to drag the angel's drunken ass back to an apartment to pass out at. This three day binge is the starting point of Castiel's budding alcoholism. Castiel makes a voice post on the network, which brings about some misinterpretations about the relationship between Balthier and Castiel. Jimmy chews Cas out, Needy expresses a firm dislike towards testing, Balthier offers more help, Future Cas half-assedly scolds Cas, and Joan of Arc tells Cas to stop wallowing in self-defeat. Fortunately for Castiel though, Ari replied and managed to get Castiel some help for his killer hangover. Castiel is enthralled by the fact Ari is pregnant, which does not bode well for anyone. Dean apologizes to Cas about picking a fight, but demands Castiel inform him completely of the future. Castiel does not want to. Deanne then asks Cas to come home, and Castiel accepts.

The next day Gabriel, Castiel's archangel trickster older brother, gives Bete Noire his stamp of approval. Castiel threatens him. Speaking of problems with siblings, Anna and Cas have a talk which ends with Castiel being stabbed by his own blade which Anna has taken from him. Because of the nature of the blade, Castiel does not heal, which prompts him to make a rushed voice post onto the network. He passes out, but not before Gabriel Knight, Deanne, Balthier, Jimmy, Ari, and Lena McCoy reply and make sure Cas lives. It is also worth note that Castiel learned that Jimmy's daughter, Claire Novak, is now in Bete Noire.

When Castiel awakens from his omg-I've-been-stabbed coma, the first thing he does is demand his sword back from Anna. The conversation goes about as well as you'd imagine. A few days later, Castiel recovers. Ari, Demon!Sam, Claire, Jimmy, Balthier, and Deanne all stop in to visit him. Ari checks over Castiel's wound before the topic of their conversation turns towards her child and Castiel's fondness for it. Claire and Castiel speak of the fact that a shard of Castiel's Grace is wedged into Claire's soul. Jimmy admits that he has some dere for Cas to go along with all that tsun; and Balthier returns Castiel's sword to him. Things with Demon!Sam go very poorly, Castiel threatening to kill the demon if he did not leave and Demon!Sam informing Castiel that no one believes in him, he's not a nice angel, and a whole lot of other pleasant things. This leads Castiel to loose faith in people close to Demon!Sam, specifically Deanne, who visits Castiel later and is greeted with a less that friendly demeanor.

When Castiel is well enough, he leaves the apartment and starts drinking regularly. Castiel can sense that something is coming, but is too injured to figure out what. After a post from Everett Young detailing a sick man, Castiel figures out that what's happening in Bete Noire is a plague. He makes a cryptic post detailing such. Claire, Balthier, Future Cas, The Ninth Doctor, Lena McCoy, Gabriel, Conrad Achenleck, Ari, Ichigo Kurosaki, Jack Benjamin, Jimmy, and Ben Braeden all respond in varying degrees of panic, both over Castiel and the plague. Cas and Castiel have another not very successful conversation about Castiel's health, Ari takes interest to the plague and Castiel decides to find out what he can about it for her. In the conversation with Conrad, Castiel told the vampire that he was an Angel which freaked Conrad out. Conrad later made a network post detailing his dislike of basically everything ever and Castiel was perplexed then mistaken for Jimmy.

Ari, now knowing that a plague is coming, makes an announcement detailing that the hostel clinic can be used as an overflow refuge for those who are sick. She asks Castiel and Anna to fetch her supplies. Castiel tells her that he's caught the plague while out researching the illness for Ari. He refuses treatment and continues working. In his work, he finds a network post from Alba, a fallen angel. In a stoke of genius, Castiel decides it's time to search the library to clues about the plague. While in the library, a city wide snowstorm happens and a magical block comes down, making transportation for the injured angel impossible. The city has effectively quarantined Castiel into the library, along with Daniel Jackson. Things go well.

Castiel winds up catching the sickness, as does Anna and Gabriel. Anna falls into a delirium and tries and fails to make a locked post to him, detailing how mentally screwed to fuck she is without even realizing it. Heaven warped her mind around and it's Castiel's fault. Because of the plague, this, and past stress, Castiel winds up breaking down and later dying.

Returning a week and a half later, Castiel accidentally leaks a video of him readjusting to his vessel. Joanna Beth Harvelle, Anna, Jimmy, Alba, De, and Needy all respond to this. Seems like the Jo that Castiel last interacted with left Bete Noire and a new one replaced her. The conversation goes mediocre. With Anna, Castiel is guilt tripped into reading Anna's Grace to find out the damage Heaven inflicted on her. Upon his arrival, Anna sees that Castiel's Grace is literally shredded and in pieces from dying. She tries to let Castiel back down from reading her Grace, but Castiel doesn't let her. He reads her Grace smashed and broken, before leaving to let her recover. He discovers that Needy has some kind of connection with demons, but is unsure as to the nature of this; and wishes to dig deeper. De and Jimmy demand to know where he's been which Castiel stubbornly refuses to say anything, and Alba offers help which Castiel declines.

While recovering from his own injuries, God visits Castiel while he's resting. Things go so badly I can't even explain it here completely, just read the log. Oh right, She mindrapes him too. Castiel's half-developed crisis of faith and loss of identity blows up completely and he's now faced with the question "What does a creature of Faith do when there is nothing left to have Faith in?"
