Oh I'm definitely on a hair-trigger, what when I see is a long trend towards mainstreaming classic idiotic racial dog-whistles and white guys pronouncing the death of racism. Used to be people were rightly ridiculed for such idiocy. Now it's actually broached and treated as a serious subject.

As for disagreements, I'm dying for an actual disagreement, but it's kind of hard when people don't actually engage. It's all, "That's what you think," and "You don't know," and "No" and "Nuh-uh" and literally every comment thread is quickly becoming little more than a tit-for-tat piss fest between people of different factions.

And it isn't some unfortunate slide that just sort of happens. It's almost deliberate. *tin foil hat* My inbox is full of simple gain-saying, contrary, bare-assertions promulgated by the likes Jeff and gunslingr on a regular basis. It's like they're deliberately normalizing pointless naked contrarianism as some kind of norm of behavior. They're actively working to bring things down to a level pure rhetorical tone arguments.

And the shit I do in response is just all of that amplified, to magnify where things are headed.

Well at first, when I saw him, he was very concerned about being a small business owner and letting everyone know that he was a small business owner, and bemoaning the fact that other people were not small business owners and how this was a terrible burden to his sensibilities, that people were not small business owners while he was, in fact, a small business owner.

He seems to be a bundle of insecurities randomly and stupidly searching for validation either with race or with something else. Either way, he needs some sense of accomplishment in life.

Notice how he preemptively mentioned his economic status without prompting. He is very concerned about it. He needs to be recognized for it. He needs someone to say, "Hey man, you're a well accomplished dude. Relax."
