Is this part of a larger narrative or is it just a one-off thing?

It's the premise to a story I've been writing in my head for about 10 years. I'm lazy though. Writing is too hard to put it down.

I'm trying to tell a story that isn't simply a deux ex machina in the end... but it's terribly hard! Also, trying to write a story where what helps you doesn't actually care about you, they're doing it for their own purposes. The conflict between man/nature/evil, wherein nature simply acts in its own interest, and not reduced to some "helper" trope.
