Thanks for the tip about eyelash yarn. It's so soft, but I'd probably be screaming and pulling hair and making my family miserable if I gave in and bought some.
I have the patterns for the bunny and the dragon (I collect patterns, free ones. It's a fairly cheap hobby as long as it doesn't hog all the computer space), but I hadn't seen the birds. I'm going to save that one now. Maybe someday I'll have time to make soft toys again (and someone to give them to.)
Eyelash yarn isn't as soft once you're done crocheting it and you can't see your stitches while you work. I worked mainly by touch (you can feel the knots between the stitch and plant your hook in between but it's hard to tell sometimes if you're in the same stitch or the next one if you have a stitch that's not as tight as the others) and starting the first three rows was a nightmare until I just started putting markers in every stitch as I made them to find them later. It wasn't as bad for the face of the sheep because I started with the brown wool and then just changed colour so there was no "magic ring" to work in. But really it was a disappointment in the end. The lashes just wave together and instead of having a flurry result it kind of made clumps, maybe I could make it fluffier by brushing it but I don't want to try
( ... )
Was the eyelash more fuzzy on the back side of the work? I think I read that some people make their bears inside out when working with textured yarns. Did you notice any difference?
There was no difference from one side to the other, but the yarn I used had really long and thick lashes. Looking at the picture now, maybe the thickness of it played a part and something lighter would work better. I have a different eyelash yarn back home, I'll try with this one (when I go back in a month) and tell you if there is a difference.

You make me glad that I've never bought any.
