I'm right there with you about DRK x.x; I'm not adverse to it (I never have been. I didn't understand it, but I'm fairly open to unusual strategies.) The other NIN in our Proto-Omega fight had it and I could see the benefits, but they were also a lot better NIN than me so... DRK's up to 20 now x.x I'll keep going as I can.
But getting back to how you feel about DRK. I used to feel that way about /NIN on MNK. I understood *why* it was important. My brain never had a problem with the concept. But I hated nerfing myself by using a subjob that'd weaken me. It was really hard to accept until I figured out how to change my gear and my outlook to be an effective DD without Attack Bonus or Warcry and whatnot. A lot of merits were involved in getting to that point as well, but I'm a lot happier now. I almost never use /WAR on MNK. I think tanking Prime Avatars is the only thing ^^;
Personnaly I feel a lot more confident being a NIN/WAR because I feel like I have more control over everything. Provoke gives instant hate, as well as Warcry if it hits everyone in your party. DRK sub is interresting, but MP aint eternal ( taking RDM up to 75 and PLD up to 66 sorta made me realise that ). Spamming spells like stun/bind/sleep gives hate but I feel sorta naked without WAR sub... and your mana pool does empty quick. ._. You also lose Defender if you are in need of kiting

Omega doesn't have to be kited as well. If you stand just far enough from the co-tank, you could ping pong it off each other. I personally like /drk since I believe the hate control for /drk is much greater than that of /war. There are just more tools to use in order to generate hate. Stun/Sleep/Bind/Abs-xxx/Kura/Hojo/Jubaku all work to gain enmity. The testings done at http://kanican.livejournal.com/ sort of proves why /drk has much better hate control than /war

Our LS strategy against omega is to kite it after its HP reaches below 5%, and kill gunpods every 5 minutes. The two tanks usually share straight tank it until then. I know it could be done both ways, but it seems we are more comfortable with kiting instead. I do also understand the power of a sub /drk and currently leveling the job for both my Ninja and my Red Mage. But yesterday I was a bit septical about it while fighting Omega once again because I had hate most of the time with sub /war. I do not have any merits in enmity, but I was completly dressed up in enmity gears, while the other ninja had haste gear and arhat gi +1 on. I will have to do some testing when my Dark Knight finally reaches 37

I'm still only at NIN72, but I've never been a fan of using a Haubergeon full time for tanking either. I guess we're both old school? Looking forward to Dynamis - Valkurm on Tuesday! :D -Inmemorandum
