My computer is driving me crazy. In the last couple days it's had a real problem with lagging up. I'll be trying to do something *doesn't matter what program I'm using; FireFox, Yahoo, etc.* and it will lag up. Firefox especially might give me the little "Not Responding" notice at the top if I keep trying to do stuff, but then it will pick back ( Read more... )

Tried looking in the "processes" tab of the Task Manager to se if anything's hogging resources? (Ctrl-Shift-Esc opens the task manager.)

Probably won't fix it, but you could try CCleaner and clean up all the old temp files things leave behind. Just be sure to go through the checkboxes (in both the "windows" and "applications" tabs) and uncheck anything you don't want it to clear. I'd leave the registry stuff and such alone, only use the cleaner.

Whatever you do, DON'T take it to Geek Squad. They're NEVER the answer. If you decide to take it anywhere, I'd suggest Priority Computers (right across Calumet Ave. from Fairgrounds Park), they actually know what they're doing and don't try to rip you off like some other places might.

Oh, and have you scanned with MalwareBytes yet? Good general anti-malware scanner.

The only thing hogging resources is FireFox which is nothing new, though if anything it's using less than normal. I've checked a few times and can never see anything else running that could be causing the lag.

My profile size is 358MB. I don't keep much on the C drive. Anything important gets saved to my external drive and i don't currently have a printer or scanner installed. I haven't used my scanner since I had to reinstall windows awhile back. Not sure where the disk for it is off hand.

If I remember right I should have 2gigs of RAM. I bought two 1gig sticks when I got the computer and replaced whatever came with it with those. The page file is 2046.

That page file sounds like it's too small.

It should be closer to 2.5GB.
