Crossing my fingers and hugging the other two cats....

May 22, 2010 01:49

In order to be able to get to sleep, I called the vets' just now. (Yay for 24-hour hospitals!) Alicia, the veterinarian attending Kiri, told me he went through his regular treatment (bloodwork, cleaning, turning, being petted) without having a seizure for the first time since this started. He did rouse enough to raise his head and look around ( Read more... )

I am so delighted to be able to write good things. I was willing to go the extra mile but I admit I didn't have a ton of hope yesterday. Rissi was the one who had the optimism for us both, and I'm SOOOOO glad she's being proven right!

I'll keep sending well-kitty vibes then. Poor little guy.

I'm hoping that he'll be home soon; thank you for the well-kitty vibes. I think the ones with whiskers can pick up the vibes better than we furless ones can... and that's not to mention the *other* vibes our kitties seem to love to soak up!

That is very good news. I hope Kiri continues on the road to recovery. It sounds as if he's receiving excellent care. :)

I have never seen a human hospital or an animal one filled with so many competent, consistently caring people! There are some folks there who look exhausted but I just don't see the burnout at Kiri's hospital that I so often see in medical institutions.

I think we're quite blessed. :)

So glad that Kiri is doing better! Our vet is pricier than some of the other vets around, and farther away, but we consider him well worth the extra money and effort. When I leave a cat with Dr. Bob, I *know* s/he will get the best care possible and loving attention to boot.

Sending positive kitty energy to Kiri!

Thank you thank you! Kiri's usual vet is our own Dr. Ruth, who is away at a conference -- but we've talked this over with her and she's happy he's where he is. In fact, Kiri's at the same place Dr. Ruth took one of her dogs when they had a life-threatening emergency. Her big beauty is fine and Kiri's getting better and better, bit-by-bit.

Yep. I'm actually very fond of the place Kiri was at, for a number of reasons, and one of the biggies is the thing you mentioned about the way they feel about their patients. Compassion fatigue is as big a problem in veterinary medicine as it is in human medicine, and for many of the same reasons. I've been in veterinary hospitals where it seems that the staff and doctors deal with that by not caring - heck, I've worked with and for vets that did it that way. But the staff at this place did things like get down on the floor and play with my girl when she was there (the really big man with the scary tattoos, in particular - she loved him!), the doctors from the emergency admitting to the criticalists, the internal med folks and the neurologist I know you saw - they all still care. And that makes such a difference to the animals.

Still - next time I have to go away, we're not telling him, okay?
