"I just don't understand!" Buffy Summers whined. "It's like a sacrilege. Professors should not be allowed to assign homework or projects after Spring Break. It's just too nice outside to be couped up inside working on homework."
Willow Rosenberg smiled at her friend's musings. The girls stopped under a tree and sat down on the oak bench. The year had gone so fast. Here it was already April, and they only had one month left until the spring semester ended. "Buffy, it's okay. You just have to make it through the next month - then freedom."
"I know, Wills, it's just so much. I feel like I am so behind."
"Well," Willow replied a mischievous glint in her eye; "if a certain military boy didn't spend all his free time in our room..." She let the sentence die on her lips.
Buffy playfully pushed Willow as both girls laughed. "He's just so yummy," the blonde smiled at her friend while a blush crept up on her cheeks staining them a crimson color.
Willow smiled tentatively at her friend. She was happy for Buffy, but at the same time she felt something tug at her heart. Buffy had had two relationships that could only be defined as passionate and intense. They were `forever' kind of relationships. Where as, Willow's experience with relationships had been merely mediocre.
Oz had been the first boy to ever notice her. When he left, it tore away everything she knew - everything she felt secure about. Sometimes she still can't tell where the truth stopped and where the lies started. He gave her this great gift and then before she had time to savor it - to enjoy it - he snatched back, taking with him all of the renewed self-confidence that had come about because of their love.
Then, along came Tara. While Willow loved Tara, it was more of a friendly love than anything else.
Buffy noticed Willow's change in mood immediately. However, she wasn't quite sure what had caused the dramatic shift in her mood. "Willow," she spoke quietly so has not to frighten her friend, "Willow, are you okay?"
Willow forced a smile and turned to her best friend. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just kinda zoned out. Sorry."
"It's okay," the slayer replied knowing that it was better not to push Willow into telling her what was wrong.
"So, Buffy, speaking of our favorite commando ? Where is he?"
"Uh, I don't know," she glanced around campus, "he said he would meet me here."
Across the quad...
"Come on, Miller, don't dawdle. I'm already late."
Graham Miller shot a look of annoyance toward Riley Finn. This is not what he had intended to be doing. Looking for Riley's girlfriend was nowhere near the top of Graham's `imperative to do' list. In fact, he had just decided that he was going to follow the cute redhead, whom he had Calculus with, and try to strike up some type of conversation with her. Well, he was going to try to talk to her without sounding like an idiot anyway.
So far, his attempts at conversation had been less than stellar. Forming a coherent thought became brain surgery when the girl was anywhere in his vicinity. Now, he was never going to find her. As soon as class had ended, Riley dragged Graham out the door to run an errand, and now they were looking for Buffy.
All too suddenly, they came to a stop in front of the girl in question. And much to Graham's surprise, the redhead he had been trying, in vain, to track down.
"Buffy, Willow, this is Graham."
Buffy glanced briefly, yet appreciatively over at Graham. "Hi, Graham." She smiled nodding at him.
Willow smiled shyly, "Hi, Graham," she replied in a soft voice. "It's nice to meet you." She cast her gaze downward as she often did when speaking to good-looking members of the opposite sex.
"Hi, Buffy. Willow," he spoke her name softly taking in all that was the shy woman. She was a unique combination of woman and child. "It's nice to meet you as well."
So entranced was he, he didn't notice that Riley and Buffy had already decided on plans for the evening and were ready to head off.
"Well, I guess Buffy and I are going to go to the library to get some studying done," Riley glanced between the Willow and Graham. "I'll see you at the frat house later, Graham. Willow, talk to you later."
"Bye, Wills."
Then it was just Willow and Graham.
"Well, I have some stuff to do. It really was nice meeting you, Graham," she offered a hand out to him.
He took her much smaller hand in his larger one. "The pleasure was all mine, Willow. Until next time." He smiled sweetly at her blush.
She reluctantly pulled her hand away and walked toward the dorms turning one last time to wave at Graham.
He watched her until she disappeared in the crowd. Then, he turned and walked toward Lowell House. As he made his way home, he passed Forrest and another member of the Initiative.
"Damn, was that Graham? I didn't know the boy had that many teeth." Forrest slapped his fellow roommate on the back and they took off.
When you smile, I melt inside
I'm not worthy for a minute of your time
I really wish it was only me and you
I'm jealous of everybody in the room
