[The first sound through the communicator is Mezzaline's humming. Then:]Oh! It's working? Wonderful! I think ( Read more... )

They're capybaras. Largest rodents in the world, found mainly in South America. [Seriously, what is with these people and not knowing what this animal is?]

Not entirely sure what they were given to us for, so far my best idea is that they gave us pets to make up for kidnapping us. [The sarcasm in her tone is more than obvious.]

Heyla. I don't mean to interject, but they're pack animals, actually. You should have a harness in your .. ahh .. pod, I think they are called? They are quite willing to carry around things for you.

A harness...?

[some fumbling noises go here, and then something between a squeak and a honk (must have been from the capybara!)]

Does it go around the beast's neck? As a lead, perhaps?

[Zhaneel listens as there is some various jingling and possibly the sounds of a discouraged capybara. She blinks and then shakes her head, amusement coloring her tone.]

Around its body .. would .. would you like me to show you?

I would! Thank you very much.

Where are your quarters, Miss...?

It is my pleasure to help if I can ..

[Have some generic direction, Mezzaline, love. Zhaneel also takes something rather important into consideration.]

My name is Zhaneel .. I am not a human, but please do not be alarmed.

Human...

[Her repetition is thoughtful. She's doesn't recognize the word]

What is a human? Do you mean, perhaps, the small two-legged beings of which I have seen so very many?

bondedgryphon January 15 2011, 16:56:26 UTC
[Zhaneel pauses at this. She had not considered that they would address the humans by any other name. However, if one did not have humans on their world, it only stood to reason that they would not know the word.]

I'm sorry, yes. The two-legged, upright beings. I hadn't considered that you might not know what they were called. I am not one of them .. I will have my cappy-bare-ah with me outside. I doubt very much that you will be able to miss me.

[She at least sounds relatively humored about this.]

[Not a human? Not a problem! It's actually a relief to hear that Zhaneel is something else - that's a third person she's encountered who she knows is inhuman!

When she speaks, she sounds positively pleased.]

That is no matter to me! Now, I shall see you in a short while, yes?

[Zhaneel has no problem with the humans, but she can't help but feel a bit overwhelmed at the sheer number of them around her. She at least had a handful of gryphons or hertasi around in her homeland. The fact that Mezzaline might not be human hasn't quite struck her. She might find this a bit surprising, but it will be a bit of a relief on her end as well.

You will, however, get the slightest hint of a relieved sigh and she nods her beak once.]

I shall be waiting for you, then!

[And she shall, waiting outside in the sun with her capybara snoozing comfortably alongside her.]

[Mezzaline heads out the door, lead hung over one arm and capybara following behind. It's gotten over the previous

Upon spotting Zhaneel, Mezzaline's eyes go wide, and then she breaks out into a smile. Still some distance away, she waves to Zhaneel, and then she comes closer. Still, she doesn't get too close - just because she's not alarmed by Zhaneel's presence doesn't mean the reverse will be true.]

Are you the lady with whom I spoke on the transmission pieces?

[comment log] Thanks for your patience, honey! bondedgryphon January 19 2011, 21:10:33 UTC
[The gryphon waits patiently, having no place to be in any manner of a hurry. Her gaze is moving over those passing through and around the pods, curious and attentive at the same time. She she spots Mezzaline's approaching figure, however, her gaze freezes and she watches her.

The creature looks to be something Ma'ar would have put together for his army, but Zhaneel also recognizes her immediately from the Calling. The spider woman stops a slight distance from where she lies and any doubt Zhaneel might still have for her own safety is waylaid by the capybara that appears from behind her.

Strange, certainly, but no threat; and then she speaks and Zhaneel's beak gapes slightly in the gryphon equivalent of a grin. She bobs her head once.]

I am .. my name is Zhaneel.

[She rises off the ground and shakes out her feathers and fur. It was amazing how quick it was to find relief in the presence of another non-human.]

[No shrieking! She didn't even jump in alarm! This is off to a great start.]

And I am Mezzaline!

[She leans down in a bow, but it doesn't last long; she's too excited by Zhaneel. When Mezzaline straightens back up, she is beaming.

As much as a spiderlady can.]

Now, would you care to show me how to lead my capybara to and fro?

[Zhaneel had seen a good deal in her lifetime, though nothing quite measured up to the spider creature before her. However, unlike those creatures, Mezzaline was approaching cautiously and with an eagerness that Zhaneel believed she understood entirely. The creatures that had been Called seemed to be forming an unspoken alliance of sorts, teaming up and finding comfort in the presence of one another amongst the assortment of humans.]

It is a pleasure to meet you, Mezzaline.

[The bow is rewarded with a gaping grin and she fluffs her facial feathers out, bobbing her head once. At the request for guidance regarding the harness, Zhaneel nods and chortles softly.]

Of course.

[She gestures for the spider-woman to approach and her capybara trots over, coming to stand near its gryphon companion. Zhaneel takes up her own harness, sitting back on her haunches with a great show of balance. She speaks as she works, her forefeet all but human hands for their dexterity and shape.Rather than fastening about the neck, they fasten about the girth ( ... )

[Mezzaline watches Zhaneel closely and mimics her motions. Wrap the leash around like this, clip it like that, turn it that way and give the capybara a pet in between...

She beams when she's done.]

Excellent!

[She gives a little tug on the leash one way and the capybara walks a couple of steps. Pleased, she scratches it along its back.]

Do you know if it's possible to teach them commands? Mine knows not the difference between "sit here" and "don't chew on that".

[Zhaneel watches with pleasure as Mezzaline takes to the tutoring with a gusto, paying rapt attention to everything she does before repeating the motion herself. In fairly short order, both females have properly harnessed capybaras that are watching them rather attentively.

At the question, the gryphon turns her gaze to the bright eyed rodent standing next to her. She finally nods her head once, glancing sidelong at Mezzaline once more.]

I believe it more possible than many give credence; they did play those peculiar instruments at the Calling, after all. I believe they are capable of far more then some think.

[She really did believe that Arbiter could train his, after all; if not for the strict maneuvers he was hoping, then at least to better assist as they could. She gives her beak another nod and gapes it slightly, seeming quite pleased.]

And with how quickly you took to this, I think you perfectly capable of managing to train a few key options.
