Ahh, the explosion happens. As I have said, I love disability fics, especially if the disability is new, but only few people write it realistically and do it with justice. Some of them have their own disabilities, but they go so far at showing how the characters can be independant and strong with their disability, that they take off the realistic reactions of their limitations.
Or the then writers just amke them wallow in it or use a magic healing so that their life will be complete, becuz a person with a disability cannot be happy nor have a full life... Aargh.
Yes, I get passionate about this. Sorry. ^^'
Just meaning to say (again) that I love the way you write Roy's blindness and all the descriptions from his POV and still manage to make it so believable and beautiful. I can see (okay, not...) the Xerxes, feel it and stgumble at the stones and stairs like Roy when I read this and I love it. ^^
It's all about Roy...mfelizandyMay 10 2011, 03:52:18 UTC
So far in writing this and Arcanum Familias, I've discovered that the best way to avoid going overboard with disability-awareness-zeal or plopping down to wallow in self-pity is to remember that this is Roy Mustang we're talking about. The brilliant kid who mastered an esoteric and finicky alchemical discipline, joined the military, discovered it was rotten, then pitted himself against the entire structure of the government of his country. He wasn't looking to make a martyr of himself, he wanted to actually change the country for the better on a truly monumental scale. No small goal for a twentysomething kid to set himself. Roy's lost his sight, but his core personality and beliefs are much the same. I'm sure he had his moments of shock, rage, grief, and frustration in those first days after the eclipse. Roy is human, he's going to lose his temper or break down in tears from time to time--but he would do that whether he was blind or not. He's going to continue to be Roy--quick-witted, adaptable, compassionate and protective of

First off before I start the review, thanks for being fine with me using (yeah, probably should have used 'use' instead of 'borrow' ^^; ) some of your worldbuilding for my future fic and I'll credit you and fractured_chaos, of course! If I have any questions regarding your take on Ishval, I'll let you know!
Okay, onto the review. I like the conversation between Roy and Shan there, very calm. I can see her be slightly more nicer to Roy than the other Elders after she was featured in the manga/Brotherhood anime talking to Ed. Also, the Wise Slave story is very nice.
Hm, so Olivier is up to something? I'm interested in finding out if that's the case.
The last part I actually have a similar experience with typewriters recently. At my workplace I have to use a typewriter once in a while to type out forms and sometimes it jams. x_x Yeah, it would be easier for Roy to fix the typewriter if he has his sight back, but broken typewriters still sucks, oi.
