Such a good fic! I could see Roy actually doing this in his spare time somehow. As for the coffee pot, I love those! They have them at Victoria and Alberts in Disney World (super expensive!!) and they are SO cool to watch! I think this was a wonderful detail to add in! Also - Love the street sign! LOL
Thank you! kashicat and I played with the idea of Roy building models, and came to the conclusion that if he could/wanted to find the time to build models, it would quickly become something of a minor obsession. Weapons'-grade alchemists seem prone to obsession--probably because only an obsessive could block out the rest of the world long enough to really master high-level alchemy.
From what I've seen and read about vacuum-brew coffeepots, there's a bit of art, chemical, gustatory, and performance, to making and serving coffee using one--and Roy seems the sort to have rather refined tastes when it comes to household objects, even things like a coffeepot. He doesn't often pass up a chance to show off, either--I imagine some of his girlfriends have been dazzled by a performance of alchemical fire producing perfect coffee.
Wow, what a fic. I'm not sure what to say other than...I'm moved. Beautiful descriptions and painful heart wrenching. This, I'm afraid, is one topic that will never stop hurting, no matter how many fanfics I read revolving around it.
Thank you so much. "I'm moved" is one of the best compliments I've had!
Hughes' death still makes me get teary, no matter how many times I read that bit of the manga or re-watch those scenes of the anime(s). He's so full of personality and life that his death leaves a hole in the fabric of his world--or rather Roy's. Your icon actually sums up their relationship beautifully--Roy depends on Maes both in the sense of military intelligence and as a friend who can remind him to lighten up every now and then. He lost that, and though Riza tries to support Roy, her personality just isn't inclined toward that steam-valve mania that can get Roy to relax and smile a little.
I wandered over from fm_alchemist, and wow. I love model trains, we had a huge set(s) when I was little, so you are combining two things I love here. Hughes' boss' misconception about what Roy was up to was great and so funny. The end was heart-rending. Poor Hughes :'(
I was into trains when I was a kid, too, though my set spent more time in moving boxes than actually running. I still have it, and I am planning to incorporate various of its parts into the new layout I am planning to cram into my bedroom (removable shelves) bit by bit. You might appreciate the fact that as I wrote, I was thinking that Roy's locomotive was probably somewhere between HO and O scale--maybe S. kashicat wrote Roy's trains closer to N scale, or maybe even Z! Just one of the interesting differences in our respective scenes
