It's getting close to the end. Soon we'll have the last issue in our hands, and we'll know who survived and who didn't, and in what condition. I have my own opinions on who's likely to be a casualty of "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny", but I thought it'd be fun to see what the rest of the community has to say about the ending.

Regardless of his intentions, the war was over, therefore Scar is a serial killer. It doesn't matter if the people he did kill were nasty guys, it's still vigilantism. It doesn't matter if he worked triple-time to help clean everything up, he's still a criminal who's offenses (in -any- society) carry a hefty price. With actual murder (not self-defense, not manslaughter, but actual, premeditated, first-degree murder), there is no: "Well, you paid your debt by saving the world". It's more: "Thanks for all you did, but you're still going to prison (or be executed)." The best he can hope for would be his choice of punishment. Either life in an Amestrian prison, or a quick death by firing squad.
If Arakawa let's him walk off with nothing more than a hand-slap, I will be severely disappointed. After all, everyone else has been paying for their "crimes" all through this story.

I'd rather see Scar die in battle. It would be more fitting. A proper warrior's end, yanno?

I believe Hohenheim isn't going to make it and it will be a grand gesture on his part - how Al gets his body back (I actually have a plot line running with that happening - that both Ed and Hoho gave their lives to protect Amestris/return Al to his body - which I started way before 102 came out).
I also thought that Jean will walk again due to the Xingese alchemy. May not be immediately, but.
I expect Ling and/or Greelin to remain alive and take over the country of Xing, in one form or another.
I'm almost expecting Alex Louis to also die in a grand gesture (perhaps protecting Olivia).
I would be sad if Darius and Heinkel bit it (*cough*). I've grown to enjoy those two.

His death, in turn, I could see being a catalyst for softening up Oliver if she does actually end up as Fuhrer (and not Roy) to join the cause of Team Mustang, but, of course, it would have been renamed Team Armstrong and Mustang would be out of the Military and pursuing change from the Civilian side. Can see a lot of Mustang/Havoc co-dependency here. Because I *still* couldn't see (no pun intended) even a kinder, softer Oliver keeping Mustang around.

Yeah, that's what I think, too.

If he dies you will see enemy and I adopting angstypants Ling mourning icons and changing our lj mood theme to all black.
(I know you're worried for Ed but I'm so confident he's going to be OK and make it back to his loved ones! What was that impalement scene and the big goodbye to Winry about otherwise?)

And I definitely hope Ed makes it. What Al's body says just worries me, a lot.
