Yay, another chapter! I am really, really enjoying this story so far, I can't wait to see what happens next! I love the way you write Roy and Scar, they're both perfectly believable. And I love the art, too. That banner is gorgeous. :D

Roy and Scar are fun! mfelizandy April 21 2011, 19:57:28 UTC
Thank you! Keeping Scar in particular in character while engaging him in significant dialogue has been a real challenge. I've learned that in writing him, it's best to draft his lines to get the meaning across, then go back through and pare it down to the bare minimum of words necessary to make his point. It's a lot of fun to push him a little and see what he'll do in novel situations--he's surprised me already with his flexibility as a character.

Roy is easier to handle, though he can still be a handful. His dialogue doesn't have to be so lean, but he is highly intelligent and psychologically complicated. Hinting at all the factors he's taking into account and why he chose the action he did without forcing him into hours of monologue to explain it...I spend a lot of time staring out the window trying to "think Roy".

I'm so pleased you're enjoying this! I'm enjoying writing it.

I have read this obsessively atleast once a day and only just now realized that I haven't commented. Usual.

I love to read fics where my favourite character has some permanent disability, so I am all over this. You write Roy's blindness so believably and don't fall for the annoying thought that he is now useless etc. I love it.

Especially I am surprised that you wrote this fic was because when the chapter 102 came, you wrote an entry where you wished that his blindness wouldn't be permanent, so I love you. Seriously.

Oh please, continue this soon!

"I have read this obsessively at least once a day..."

That's one of the nicest comments anyone's ever given me, thank you!

I was pretty upset after Chapter 102, yes. Roy's blinding was a total surprise, though it made sense when Pride made his gleeful comments about Roy's sight and his vision. I think I took longer to get used to the idea than Roy did! He seemed to adapt pretty fast, which is, when I think about it, in line with his character.

As surprised and aggrieved as I was after Chapter 102, though, I was surprised and dissatisfied with the "hurry-up" nature of the reversal of Roy and Jean's disabilities at the end of Chapter 108. To me, it seemed like Ms. Arakawa was abruptly in a hurry, and someone else was leaning on her to follow typical Saturday-cartoon rules and reverse any significant changes to the characters by the ending credits. It didn't make sense. So I started tossing it around with kashicat, who thought the ending didn't quite fit the characters either. This story is the result ( ... )

The interaction between Roy and Scar in this story is really fascinating. I enjoyed reading your extensive responses to the other commenters as well!
