(A bit late, as I've been in back agony for two days - sorry about that.)
We saw the
RSC run through an awful lot of sports on Tuesday night here in Pittsburgh. It was hilarious, and you really should go see them. Really. Show runs through Sunday here. Gogogogogo!
So months and months ago, I signed up for the
Pittsburgh Public Theater's subscription series, and they said I could also get tickets to see the RSC in January. I said OH YEAH and bought those too. See, we've been seeing them since they started coming to Pittsburgh, and we were poor college students having to bus it to the northside to see them near Allegheny Mall. We know what they're like and love their shows, so I could not wait to see them again. I was only sad we had to wait till January (why is it always COLD here when they come through?!). Also I found out they had a twitter feed, so I started stalking^Ufollowing them.
Over the last 8 months or so it's been fun watching them circle places, meet people, and still NOT be here.... But I knew they were coming, eventually. And I had front row tickets, so I knew this might be interesting :)
I knew they signed stuff after the show, so I thought about what I might bring. When I was much younger, I started watching Doctor Who, about when they switched from Tom Baker to Peter Davison. And I learned about cricket, and thought it was fun, so when a cousin of mine said she was going to England, was there anything I wanted, I asked for a cricket bat. The amusing thing was, it's not an adult-sized bat, it's a kids bad. It's.....reduced ;p So, perfect.
On top of that, during the show there's a specific joke about cricket, so I thought it would get a good laugh. No, I won't spoil it. Just go see the show, you'll get it, trust me.
Not that it changed much the day of, but I'd already replied to @reduced a few times about stuff, and specifically told them I was waiting for them to be here this week, and to look for blue yarn :) I got knicknamed Madame DeFarge, obviously. Heh. Not that I thought I'd have brain enought to knit during the performance, I'm usually laughing too hard.
The show itself was wonderful, if anything the biggest oddity was the lack of reaction from about half the audience. They'd laugh or clap, but they were QUIET about it. I know I had to get over my, "OMG this is the O'Reilly theater, this AM SERIOUS BUSINESS!" feeling. Thankfully that took me, oh, five minutes I think. But I'm sad people were so quiet, the guys deserved louder yuks for that show.
Oh, I think I ended up being Matt's hero for one scene - it certainly deserved a round of, "Awwww!" from the audience, but it was just me I think. He looked at me and said, "Thank you!" This is why I love being in the front during live shows, you can really make (or break) it for the performers. And these guys are just wonderful, they deserve it.
So after the show, I showed them the bat and told them I'd picked it out before I knew about the cricket joke, and one of them realized it was short, and I got to say, "Yes, it's a reduced bat." Hehehe, that was great. They all signed it, and wrote on it "A reduced cricket bat!" and "Go us!"
The whole bat.A closer view, highlighting the "Reduced" tag.Austin and Matt's signatures on the bat, and you can just see "Go us!"And the end of the bat, with Reed's signature and "Go us!" again :) And since I'm going to go and post this on twitter, I'm sure the RSC will end up here eventually, so: Thank you guys for a wonderful show! I hope all my friends go to see it, no matter where in the country they are! Please keep up the hilarious work, we need to laugh more :)
