I figured I wasn't the only one to learn the news through a social network. Though, if not for it, I probably would have read about it this morning anyway.
As for the future--still waiting for my flying car...but all in all it's not too bad.
To take two, rather related, events, I can illustrate a similar progression:
On September 11th, 2001, I was awoken by a phone call (I was in CA at the time, so it was pre-work time for me). It was my father-in-law telling me, effectively, to turn on the news. That's how I found out that day.
Last night, I brought up facebook on a laptop, and got the first news there, from which I ended up turning on CNN about an hour before President Obama did his announcement, and while waiting for that, I browsed to various news websites.
Screw flying cars. Instant information is much more useful, anyways!
