Okay, so since we got engaged a week ago, I've been casually looking at wedding things. I have a bad feeling the whole planning this is going to stress me out. Maybe we will just elope. James doesn't want to though, because he thinks I will regret it "in 50 years." Argh. We are thinking about May 26, 2007 but Fiona doesn't like that date cause its ( Read more... )

I feel the exact same way about planning! I know parts of it are going to be fun, but dealing with my family really stresses me out, but they're paying for the wedding, so we have to "deal with them" to some extent. I've fantasized so many times about semi-eloping (ie small group of closest family/friends, fairly casual), but I can't get over the idea that I will regret not having certain things.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!

I love my family more than anything, but we have serious conflicts over what a wedding should be -- i want casual, w/ tea length dresses, but apparently my mum does not agree. I feel like I am just going to leave most of it up to her because, lets face it, as long as its James that I marry that day, nothing else really matters! We just have to keep telling ourselves that!

Oh, and I used to work in the wedding industry, and watched my mom plan her wedding to my stepdad ten years ago. I'm not convinced big weddings are worth it. If James really wants it, that's great, and I'm sure you guys will have a wonderful wedding; but don't be swayed by this fear of regretting it later. If it ends up being a stressful obligation instead of a joyful celebration, or even in addition to all the joy and togetherness and stuff, is it really worth it?

Just my troublemaking two cents. :-)
