watching and reading

what I'm watching

Not much TV this season, other than my obsessive re-watching of Murder, She Wrote, before Netflix cracks down on vpns. I'm watching Elementary and Supergirl (surprisingly good) and trying to get into the new shows but nothing is striking my fancy as yet. I'm saving Agent Carter to watch in a spree next week when my PVR reaches ( Read more... )

I really enjoy mysteries, but I haven't watched much this year. I get sidetracked by ice hockey. Then I spend the summer trying to catch up. My only exception this year has been AGENTS OF SHIELD, because I'm crazy about Clark Gregg. He's such a wonderful actor, and the series just keeps breaking my brain by doing something I really didn't expect.

hockey! NHL or local?

I'm always trying to anticipate what Agents of SHIELD will do next, and also how it'll play into the overall MCU arc (or rather, how the MCU films, specifically Civil War, will impact AoS). Clark Gregg is doing such a great job with the role and playing the straight man on such out-there material :D (also they have such a great cast)

NHL. I've been to a number of NHL games, including going to see the Penguins play the Lightning last Christmas in Tampa! Local hockey doesn't exist as the nearest rink is 90 minutes away.

Oooo! Clark Gregg is SO wonderful! Yes, we're going to get along well. (grin) I love seeing how the movies play into the show. It constantly surprises me. And the mythology of the show itself is constantly opening up in new ways. I'm just completely addicted.

Nice! I've only been to one NHL game recently (In Vancouver; I won tickets at the office xmas party) and it was pretty fun.

I'm interested to see where they take Agents of SHIELD during the Civil War lead-up - I think that has a lot of interesting implications for the tone of the show, certainly, and whatever aftermath of the movie will have O_O. I haven't seen movie spoilers but I do know where the comic story arc went and yeah sadness. But we;ll get there in April (is it that soon O_O)

Let me love you...

OMG, need to watch more Poirot. Cause gosh knows they'll yank it before I'm done. (I'm totally in love with David Suchet). Matlock?! Be still my heart!!! I'm on a Columbo kick right now. Cause Peter Faulk. Need to rewatch Murder - Because Angela @#$%ing Lansbury. Miss those shows...

OUaT TRIED to lose me. Then got me back at the end of the season (though I could care less about Belle after the last two years. Hell with that ship. It sailed. My Rumple can do so much better...he needs his own 'evil queen'). They did it well, really. I'm kind of stunned.

Carter is MARVELOUS. And I'm still loving NCIS and CM. I'll likely stay on them til they are done...

*HUGS*

You are likely going to kill me, but Poirot (DS character of him) brought him to life for me. I couldn't get into Christie's books. It may have been how I read and disseminate information, but I just couldn't get into her prose, description or dialogue. But when I first saw Poirot (YONKS AGO), I fell in love. He is hands down one of my favorite characters. And Suchet is such a darling! What a true gentleman! I can't remember if I've ever seen that particular take on MotOE, but I have seen several - and that is one where I WILL say the book is far superior ( ... )

nope, I love 99% of the Poirot interpretations.... especially the ones where David Suchet is getting a little older (and I think he got more creative control over the series) and we got to see that more introspective Poirot, more aware of his own mortality. One of my all-round favorite of those eps was Five Little Pigs, just such a beautifully filmed episode and so character-based and a low-lying slow sadness at the loss of the past but also the celebration of the lives lived ( ... )

Lots of people I know seem to be watching _Murder She Wrote_. Personally, I'm catching up on S1-2 of _The 100_. After the pretty-bad first-episode, I have quite liked the rest. Also, I got a DVD of _Castle_ to try, via Netflix. I've heard such mixed things about it...

Murder She Wrote is one of those things that doesn't offer any surprises, so if you're looking for something formulaic and creatively safe it's a good one. Not that it's boring - they did a good job of keeping the plots different over 12 years. Just not shocking.

Never watched the 100, but have Castle - I found the first four seasons to be good - the show's a mix of situational comedy and police procedural, nothing too serious, and good casting. Tho the first part of season 1 is a mixed bag. Anyway, let me know what you think :)

I saw that book on our new display at the library, it looked fascinating! There are a couple other books on old time true crime that I would recommend if you like that...trying to remember the titles and failing now but I can find them in my GoodReads if you are interested. /librarianing

it was really interesting and if one is interested in the context of poisonings, very useful. I just finished and the chapter on thallium poisoning was really neat - apparently several cases of thallium poisoning after The Pale Horse came out have been caught by people who recognize the symptoms from reading the book. Neat!

I love true crime books so if you have any recommendations to hand, I would love to see them :D

Nice! I saw the documentary based on that book on Netflix (I think it was a PBS production) but didn't twig that it was a book - I'll pick it up at the library :D
