The Macmillan Debacle

While I'm not an author, I can appreciate the authors being upset over lost sales with this fight, but I'm not sure the authors understand what is happening here.

According to John Sargent, the new agreement they're pushing means less money for macmillan. So they're getting less for every eBook they sell. How does this benefit authors? Does an ( Read more... )

Actually, from all reports, they were selling the best sellers for _less_ than what they paid the publisher, as a loss leader. They leveraged their agreements with the publishers that allowed them to buy the "copies" at hardcover rates instead of having to negotiate ebook distribution deals.

They won't be allowed to do this as an "agent"
