Margaret Atwood's "Happy Endings" was a great read in class this week. The concept is relatively simple; there are several different scenarios for how John and Mary and Fred and Madge's love stories end. Only one is ideal, but that same one is also practically impossible ( Read more... )

I enjoyed your entry. I didn't think about the story in that way. I can totally see your point about what the author is trying to tell us and I do believe that it is true that the movies we watch and the stories that we read set us up for very unreal expectations that only get us into trouble and cause much unhappiness.

I completely agree with you. It's like when we watch all the romantic comedy movies. We have crazy ideas of what a relationship should be like when in reality it would be nearly impossible and most likely boring. A movie is good, but it even it has an ending.
