I haven't been on here for a while. That's mainly due to the fact that I could think of nothing worthwhile to say on here. I'm an advocate of "if you've got nothing to say, don't say anything", which is perhaps why a lot ot the time I simply enjoy listening to others' conversations and occasionally join in when I actually have a comment.

It's funny; I knew about the distinction of those particular honoriffics, but I'd never thought about it in relation to your user name. Go figure ( ... )

What Dan said... it's okay to plan for the future, but try to live in the moment. If you think about 'now', then you won't be too worried about what will happen 'then', and you'll enjoy the ride.

You'll enjoy yourself more in general, I think. I tend to take that to the extreme and enjoy things like the sun, or a bird that flew by, or the feeling of walking to class. Living in the moment rocks because you see things people normally overlook because they're too obsessed with thinking about the future... or the past.

You can never change the past, and the future is always uncertain. So just do what you can right now! :3

I think that made sense...

Thanks, Vicky; you put that way better than I did.

Oh, and enjoying what's around you might be extreme by some standards, but it's the way to live- really live. The world should never lose the beauty and wonder it has for a child. There are precious few people that appreciate the world around them like that; it's a highly admirable quality.

Well, you are the one who taught me to look at the world that way. I'm pretty sure that, if I hadn't met you, I'd probably still be as dark and miserable as I was in Middle School. :)

Very good advice from both of you, Vicky and Dan. I shall have to try to follow it. It's just very difficult sometimes.

I understand that it can be difficult. It can be scary not to be in complete control. But, really, worry doesn't control anything. "Can any of you, by worrying," Jesus asks in both Matthew and Luke, "add a day to your life?" That's not to say that the future doesn't matter; if you see that you can act to change it in any positive way, by all means, do so. But if you don't know what's coming, don't waste the present wringing your hands over it ( ... )

I agree completely. I try to live in the moment because if I think too far into the future, I wind up having panic attacks. There's so much that you can't control about even the present moment--trying to say "okay, this is where I will be in a year" is just crazy.

It's okay to have an idea of where you'd LIKE to go, but don't worry too much about the specifics of getting there or you'll go crazy.

Besides, who says you have to take one of the roads in front of you? Forge your own path!

Ooo, good use of the metaphor. Much better than mine. Fuck paths, just walk through the woods!

Well, it looks like others have already advised you better than I could on which path to take, so I'll stick to something I know.

You're correct in that 'kun' is the suffix used for younger boys...usually. However, a little known fact is that 'kun' can also be used between girls who are particularly close friends, or for girls who are considered to be "tomboys" (which, by Japanese standards, would be most Western girls). 'Chan' is properly used for almost any girl of equal social status to the speaker, but in a more colloquial sense, it does have a connotation of being somewhat "girly." So, while "mia_chan" would have been technically correct, you're not really doing anything wrong by using "mia_kun."

Awesome. Learn something new every day. Since we're just watching a movie I've already seen in my first class, and my other class is Business and Technical Writing, I sure as shit wouldn't have learned anything else, so thanks!
