Best forward: Miroslav Klose, Germany Golden Boot winner, hard to argue with that.  Not only did he score 5 goals, but without him, Podolski would have NEVER won the "best young player" award.  Talk about a player that shows up for his country.

Best Midfielder: Zinedine Zidane, France Despite the head butt heard round the world, he played ( Read more... )

Okay, that asshole that was pinching Zidane's nipple totally deserved that headbutt. I've watched about three videos of it, and that guy is lucky he didn't just haul one in the nuts to him. As for the ref that trotted over there toting and waving that red card, I would have headbutted his ass, too ( ... )

heh I'm in england so i went to a pub to watch the v. Portugal match, one of the chants was "A small part of Spain! Just a small part of Spain! A small part of spain" etc etc
i've never seen so many grown men cry, one dude right next to us chucked his cup (thankfully plastic for these reasons) against a wall!
most of the guys in my program were getting really involved in the matches, we watched them in the dorm lobby and had a blast even though most of our teams had been eliminated..

I have to admit that I got involved, but not to the point of making projectiles out of drinking cups.

And yeah, it's just fun to watch soccer overseas. A little refreshing after being innundated with superbowl retardness all of one's life.

I'm glad to see you put Grosso's goal in the top 5, as I did also in a thread on the GSMB... that might have been the highest point of excitement in open play during the second round, and for me his celebration was the best of the entire month... just absolute ecstasy that you could feel from thousands of miles away... good call on Cannavaro as defender of the tournament, he is a beast!!! Ronaldinho was a letdown, but so was the USA! For all the talk though of Germany and Argentina doing things as a team, I feel like Italia did it even more... 12 goals scored, 11 goalscorers...that's insane, plus no goals allowed in open play and they converted all 6 of their penalty kicks during the tournament. One of the best WC teams of all time for sure!
