Random Lists for the night: the Best and Worst of Disney Romance.

Oct 20, 2012 02:06

So last year I did a list of my Top 21 Disney Princes/Men with the Most Cojones.   Inspired by watching a bit of Cinderella tonight with my goddaughter, I realized that while Disney is know for it's "classic films and classic romances," most of their romances actually suck really bad.  So, we're going to do my list of The Best and the Worst Disney ( Read more... )

*applause* Wonderful list! I think I have a little more grace for Ariel "changing everything about herself for a boy" than you do. Granted, I really don't like that story all by itself, either (one of the reasons I can't stand the story of Grease) but in Ariel's case she was already established as being far more interested in the human world than her own. Eric was more or less the inevitable catalyst to get her to act on it, and he happened to be romantic. Her actions were driven every bit as much by rebellion as they were by infatuation.

Can't argue with any of that! Except I have a huge soft spot for The Lady and the Tramp. ;)

Up just hurts my soul to watch it. I cry every gosh darn time... Carl and Ellie just have so much commitment as a couple. You just don't see that too many times any more.

Even though you knew it was a cartoon--it just smacked of reality. Especially all the times that they had to smash the change jar because of a disaster that had to be taken care of--giving up their dream, to keep their reality going.

The rest I really can't argue with at all...Disney just doesn't tell good love stories. But then again, fairy tales never do. That's why their so magical.

On Cinderella though--you won't convice Katie that its anything other than awesome. Then again..shes 3. :P If I have to watch a Cinderella-esque story, I'll take "Ever After". That at least has some reality to it.

This is an awesome list/analysis. (Why don't you have a job working for Disney yet?) :D

Totally agree about Up. I think it was your review of it I'd read before going to see it, and I was all, "Oh, there's no way I'm going to cry in the first 10 minutes." And then there I was in the theater, practically sobbing. Gah, I can't even think about it without getting teary-eyed. Brilliantly done opening, that.
