I prefer it to carpe diem in that it implies Sieze THIS moment.. rather than an implication to sieze the encapsulation of a defined period of time.

I absolutely agree... There's a very zen tone to that phrase... A suggestion that you focus on this moment and what you are (or should be) doing in this moment...

It's a sentiment my former sensei was always very quick to remind all his students to while we trained in his tiny little dojo, trying to kill each other with big sticks...

and that's a really good time to focus on exactly what's happening around you...

Yes.. yes.. I can see the big stick factor being quite the motivator to maintain some level of focus.
