Lisa post!

HereI didn't really start to feel like Lisa until the very end, but I'm pretty happy with it, all in all. This one features more rampant re-naming, since I would like a little more distance between my writing and the WoT books/universe, and because I didn't want to dig up the Big List of Names. The differences are mostly cosmetic, but that makes ( Read more... )

Lisa's clearly got some survivor's guilt, but I haven't really gotten to the heart of it yet. That's for the next post (maybe)!

I'm pretty sure everyone does, in various flavors. 'Cept maybe Kayla.

Speaking of which, yay Kayla to the unexpected but not entirely out of character rescue!
And nice using of game mechanics for story telling. I have found that to be one of the interesting/difficult/fun things about this writing project. Though I'm not sure it's ever made it into anything I've actually written and posted yet:p
I was wondering about how they get an unconscious Kye and a recently squashed Kayla who's probably not up to a long trip to the White Tower. I didn't think of that spell... which I can't remember the name of at the moment.

His sweat blackened, like ash in water.

Yelch!

Kayla avoided any expression of their ire by strategically collapsing.

Heh:)

Mystra smiled on me and brought my eyes to the delicate features of Elizabeth Benton, my former apprentice, now Lady Benton of the yellow ajah, to judge by her shawl. ( ... )

The spell is called "Wind Walk". During game, it solved the problem of the continent we were on being HUGE, and now it's solved the problem of me not knowing what the map looks like these days ( ... )

I didn't like being humorous there, but that's how the words came out.

A little humor in the middle of a dramatic situation is not always a bad thing.
Speaking of Bujold, she is the master of that and it works to very good effect for her.
Have you read Cruse of Chalian? The climax of that book comes to mind as a good example of what I am talking about. I think I was tearing up and giggling simultaneously when we read that.

Elizabeth was always a yellow.

Mmkay.
It's not like I actually paid much attention to Elizabeth:p

the bonus of giving the party a dedicated healer that we sorely needed

That's a good idea. Did she ever actually get to do any healing? I don't remember her every healing anyone. If I did, I'd probably have remembered that she was supposed to be a Yellow!

They rarely serve a single purpose with any given action.

They probably also wanted someone they thought they had better control over keeping an eye on Lisa Phoenix and reporting back to them.
Or, if they didn't, they really should have:p
