get a u lock (not the ones from the mica store) and be sure to always ride on the right side of the road! (I hate it when cyclists ride the wrong way on a one way street)
Wear a helmet. Get a blinky light for safer nighttime riding and a brand name U-lock like Kryptonite. Velocipede can provide you with a good social network of people who may want to ride. There are also other resources for group and casual rides and bike events around Baltimore at Baltimore Spokes.
There's a casual ride that meets up on Tuesday nights at the corner of Charles and Read. All bikes/riders welcome. We usually do 10 miles or so at a relaxed pace.
There's a bike shop just behind Joe Squared. If you cross the Howard Street bridge and look down once you reach the other side, you'll see it. Wish I had known about it, I biked all the way up LIGHT Street for a lock. And you might get looked at funny riding down Howard. I did, anyway. Just take the light rail when you can. :)
