This is how I saw Dean beginning that year too, hating himself for finding comfort, unable to believe he deserves it.

yup, I'm with you on this. It must've been just incredibly hard for Dean that whole year. Even though the human mind adapts to pain and loss whether we wish it to or not. :(

I would love to see some missing scenes from that year on the show but doubt we will see much more than what we've already seen. I am sure Dean suffered greatly without Sam and knowing where his brother was. Thanks so much for taking time to read and comment!

Despite the fact that Dean promised Sam he would go to Lisa and move on with his life, yes he did believe he didn't deserve this, he felt guilty for still living and it was eating him up. How could he move on when he knew what Sam was going through. I loved this and it totally depicts how I imagined Dean those first few months. Buried under the pain, torn about trying to move and being stuck in his pain and wanting Sam. Finally opening up to Lisa, letting go and trying to find a way to keep his promise. Beautiful story. Thanks for this.

Thank you so much for such a lovely review! I think Dean did eventually find some comfort and happiness with Lisa and Ben but I imagine he felt guilty every moment because he couldn't believe he would deserve it, especially when he knew Sam was locked in hell with Lucifer. Thanks again!

I think it's the only way he could do it, knowing it was what Sam wanted and he'd spent his whole life doing everything for his brother. Thanks again!
