More comic ranting

Mar 03, 2005 14:18

At least this rant has a positive spin to it. This clears up the backlog of comic ranting that I had been working on. I'm sure that there's more to come, but I haven't finished reading this week's books yet... and I'll probably have more to say about Wanda (Maximoff, not Gershwitz). I am real thankful for the comments that you guys have been ( Read more... )

I like it, but It's NO Teen Titans anonymous March 4 2005, 20:32:34 UTC
Okay, I agree with MOST of what you've said - but, Young Avengers can NOT be compared to George Perez' Teen Titans run, which was more similar to the Giant Size X-Men relaunch....What it can be compared to was the moderately fun series that morphed into the current Teen Titans...Young Avengers is very obviously Marvel's Young Justice with a touch of Teen Titans and Legion of SuperHeroes for flavor.....

That said, I agree with most of your assesment....it's off to a much better start than New Avengers, but that's an easier read for me because I was never a big Avengers reader....so New Avengers is completely new to me....plus I've always loved SpiderWoman ever since her cartoon in the late 70's.....

I have a general question about comics. I'd be grateful if you'd give me your opinion on the matter.

Why is it that the various titles do not keep the same penciler from one issue to the next?

I like the way certain artists sketch the characters and despise the way certain other hacks mangle the art. Why doesn't an artist stick with one title so the art is consistent?

I really enjoyed the first dozen or so issues of Excalibur because of the art. But then things changed. The same with old issues of Fantastic Four and X-Men.

I just do not understand.

Thanks for any bits of enlightenment on this confusing (and frustrating) issue.

I didn't pick this up, but based on what you've said about it - I might have to go looking for it (I'd say I'd come over to read your copy - but that would take a little while)...taking a break from the work drudgery and found your journal through a friend's. Hi:)
