THEY KEEP KILLING TORCHWOOD:

Jul 10, 2009 10:11

See, I was enjoying Torchwood up until last night. Telling, given RTD's stance on killing off main characters being 'cheap storytelling', that as it stands only two members of the five man band are still... standing (also, they keep killing Susie). Which... I wouldn't necessarily agree with, but the way he's gotten rid of companions on Who has, so far, been really interesting, compelling storytelling.

Also, that was just... awful. Stilted dialogue, the people who live in the telly reacting to death in the way only people who live in the telly do (ie. not like real people at all, with the odd exception: compare Buffy's 'Mom? Mom? MOM! Mommy? Mom, Mom, Mom, MOOOOOOOM!' to Jack's 'Stay with me I'll never forget you even when I'm a thousand I love you even though we have no chemistry whatsoever and our relationship is pretty much based on a series of quips and innuendo and a bit of comedy shagging behind a plant or something, I can't remember, the caps were disappointing'). Just... rubbish.

The alien is infinitely improved by the addition of a rubber child at it's core, mind.

They've really got Gwen right this series, though. And I actually like Rhys on this go around! Wonders, will they never cease? No. Probably not.

Anyway. It feels like ages between episodes of Weeds. Callum and I tried to get into Hung - it can hang - and I'm standing between us getting more intimate with True Blood (all the elements are there - good, interesting characters; large funny, intentional and otherwise; great catchphrases, ie. the way he says it, like, 'Shooookay'; an old lady who dies - but... maybe they are just all there, and there's nothing else? IDK, the episodes are too long, maybe, I just find it a chore to watch). What else should I be watching?

Cheerio, Michael. xxx
