Why do we come to work on Christmas Eve anyway? Can I have my free lunch so I can go home already?

I've asked this question before in a different way, but seriously, what is the protocol for getting gifts for your boss? Is it expected? Does it make you look like a brown-noser? I know I could probably Google to find out what Emily Post has to say about it, but I want to know what y'all think. My boss owns the company, and he spends more on ( Read more... )

You are absolutely not supposed to buy Christmas gifts for a boss. For some reason everyone in my office does it though. Your boss should give you a small thank you gift for being a good employee, especially if there is no holiday bonus.

I have given gifts to bosses when they had children but that seems different.

No small thank you gift and no bonus for me! And they wonder why I'm not showering them with gifts!

I don't exchange gifts with anyone at work, and I am pretty friendship-close with everyone to the point where I probably would give them gifts if I had tons of money. My 'boss' is not really the demanding, macho, showoff type though, so I'm in a different situation altogether I think.

I used to exchange gifts with co-workers, but I haven't for a few years now. It's not that I like them any less; I just don't have the money!

12! Lucky. I'm stuck here until 1:30, and then we're having an office lunch. I don't even know what we're having, but I'm just going to get it down my throat with quickness so I can get out of here.

My boss has never given me anything for Christmas! And I'm the cheap one though! Pffft.

Srsly? Yeah you should seriously rebuttle that shit. I at least get a Christmas bonus that's more than 2 weeks of pay. YAY! haha... but that's from the head monster boss... the boss i'm talking about is the boss right before the end monster.

See you tonight?!!?? We got some serious VIDEO GAME ROCKING ACTION about to go on tonight!!!

I think I got a bonus once, but that was at least 5 years ago. No bonuses for a while. Hi.

I hope we can see you tonight, but me and Lindz are both getting sick. :/ I don't want to infect you guys!

Your boss is your superior. It is totally acceptable (expected, really) for him to give you a token holiday gift without any expectation of one in return.

I read this in some dumb advice column just the other day, but it confirmed what I held true all along.

You're off the hook. Write a thank-you note and you'll be fine.

I would LOVE to get a token holiday gift from my boss! It'll never happen though!

That's good to know, though, for next year! Thanks!

I'm pretty standard in giving my boss a new coffee mug since like clock work he breaks his around this time...i never get the owner a gift because he's generally out of town...plus he's super rich and my target gift will not be welcome...oh and i'm off until monday - woooo!!! Sorry for rubbing it in ;)

My girlfriend is off until the 5th, and it sucks so bad having to get out of bed while she gets to sleep in.
