Do you think that Japanese people sit around watching snippets from Jackass or South Park on youtube laughing their butts off then shaking their heads and saying "What the hell is wrong with Americans?"

Funny, that wasn't my reaction to the video at all. I thought it was fascinating and so did DWH. I really was interested to see how much the cats would be able to carry. So I wouldn't compare it to South Park. Am I misunderstanding you?

My guess is closer to that they would watch Jackass and shake their heads saying "They ripped off Shukowankusoto but removed all the subtlety." I've always had the perception that Japenese television is the undisputed master of amateur absurdist physical comedy, and without an active military they have a glut of uninjured 19 year-old men.
