Gaza Offensive Reaction...and my reactions to said reactions...

I do not claim to be on either side of the debate.  I firmly believe that, at this point, neither side involved in the conflict is completely right or completely wrong.

That being said, I have no way of knowing who is going to read this and what their sensitivity to the subject may be.  If I inadvertently say something that offends you, I apologize ( Read more... )

I feel really stupid, but, wtf is going on? Is there something big going on in Israel that I missed?

That aside, this was very eloquently put, Hayley. I like what you have to say without the ALL CAPS, OMGZ!

Israel launched a ground offensive into the Gaza strip that is supposed to target Hamas terrorists. Unfortunately, 65 civilians have been killed thus far in this move.

And thank you! *hugs*

All I know is this:

My brother staged a rally in support of Israel at his school, which happened to coincide with a rally in support of the Palestinians. My brother's group stood there and said nothing while the Palestinian group shouted obscenities at them, many of which included hateful words about Jews.

This is not uncommon. I drove past a Palestinian rally downtown when Kaj and I were coming back from her GRE, and I felt somewhat inclined to run them over.

I fully support Israel. I always will. I think that what they are doing is right and necessary, and that is how I will always feel.

I wasn't trying to change any one's mind - I tried to be as non-judgemental as possible. :)

Hate is never okay, though, you're right.

Oh, I know you weren't trying to change minds! I thought your entry was really thoughtful and comprehensive, and I agreed with everything you said. I was just kind of throwing my 2 cents into the pot.

I'm with you. I think we're staring down the divide that needs to find a bridge but the chasam keeps widening with these countries. There is no perfect solution and no easy one and both sides need to compromise, which from all I've seen recently doesn't seem to be an option.

Both sides are mad, the hurts run deep - thousands of years - and both are behaving poorly and civilians are dying in their war. There is no right side, but then there very rarely is in war.

Thank you for a very thoughtful post on what is a very difficult and divisive issue - one that mirrors my own thoughts and feelings.
