on friday i finally came back to work for a full day after both me and fave coworker were out with the flu. if he were the one who gave me the flu, there might be some scandalously great reason to stay here, but alack, it was nothing like that ( Read more... )

just drop off the key, lee, and set yourself free. snarkophone April 11 2006, 17:16:19 UTC
OK, so nina has this great plan about quitting jobs that stems from this horrible job she had back a few jobs ago. it goes like this:

find sympathetic good friend who is willing to lend you hands-on support in leaving a crappy job. preferably someone who has seen the suffering that said crappy job has caused you.

set quit target date.

do best you can to find job between now and target date (temporary or permanent, whatever).

if you do not quit by target date, your sympathetic friend vows to barge into your office on target date, find nearest piece of major office machinery, throw major office machinery to ground, and dance on it. while singing loudly.

it works. it really does.

I quit on my quit date, mickey quit before his, I think. The same friend who originally offered to do this for me tried to get her boyfriend to participate, but he cancelled and decided to stay in the job he hated rather than have the fax machine dance.

I am still waiting for the first actual dance, althouh I sincerely hope I don't have to be the one to do it.

do it. life is too short to be a mess like that.

what would you love to do? not in an idealistic DO WHAT YOU LOVE! way; i am just curious. (although obviously DO WHAT YOU LOVE is important too.)

i would like to be an hiv tester and counselor. sadly, most of these jobs require spanish and experience, of which i have have neither.
so i am thinking of resolving to do abortion counseling or intake in a clinic or even something vague and in a hospital.
part of me wouldn't mind teaching again. the stability and free afternoons are appealing.
i want to work with people and not push paper around so much and not be a part of some machine i don't really care about. and i want to do something outside of the jewish professional world for once.

it is sometimes alarming how parallel our lives are.

i have yet to apply to anything, but it is something that i will begin with all seriousness soon, probs over passover.

have you learned anything useful yet in your search?
