A year or two ago, at the ticket (and "security") check at a Paris museum, I overheard the following (translated from memory): "Sorry, you can't take your backpack in, you'll have to leave it in the cloakroom downstairs, near the ticket booths." "I did, they said I didn't need to because it was small enough." "Or since it's a small backpack, you could wear it on your stomach instead, then the rule forbidding backpacks no longer applies."
