"What am I supposed to do?"
"Lift up your leg, I'll slide under it, then you hook it over my shoulder."
"I'm not asking... I'm wondering how I'm supposed to tell Wesley I want a divorce."
"You shouldn't."
"You're not saying I should kill him, are you?"
He stops kissing her stomach, props his head up with his hand. "I find it interesting that you're pondering murdering him when there are many other conclusions you could have jumped to."
"I don't want you to encourage me to kill him. I don't want to kill him."
"My advice is to get an annulment. You never consummated the marriage."
"I tell Wesley it was a mistake to get married."
"It was."
"That's why I'd tell him that."
She exhales. Wonders if this is actually going to work or is just something she knows has better odds than her marriage of convenience. She likes Jack, and maybe she likes him more than she liked Floyd. But Floyd was her happy ending. Jack is her friend. Her friend who'll most likely have the same problems with being her boyfriend that Floyd did.
But she really likes him. He likes her.
"However," Jack says, "I don't think you should tell him you came to this conclusion during a night of satisfying sex."
"Why do you keep saying how satisfying the sex is?"
"I'm trying to spur you to voice your agreement."
"Oh. The sex was good. I didn't say that?"
"I suppose it was implied by your reactions during. But I wanted to hear you say it."
He moves back up the bed until his face is next to hers. When he kisses her, she wants all the confusion to melt away, but it still exists at the edges of her mind. The rest of her, though, feels less alone; less certain she's out of chances.
She lets herself be hopeful.
