11 everywhere

Today it's a strange day.

I wasn't born for September 11th 1973, the day democracy died here, 34 years since the armed forces took over the goverment, and it's still an open wound in my homeland's heart. We had a militar regime for 17 years, we had Pinochet as a dictator for so long, it's scary, so many people are still missing and the ones who were ( Read more... )

It's hard to live with that kind of past; this is also why history fascinates me; sometimes we can get through our past and move on and sometimes we make the same mistakes over and over again. Freedom of speech and opinion is the most important thing in the world and democracy may be not the perfect regime but it's the "less worse" in a way.

September 11 is weird for me; cause we just got back in france (we lived in Dakar for two years before that) and we were supposed to move in our new house, my parents picked my brother and I from school and they told us that we wouldn't move that day. I didn't hear about it from TV so it's kinda weird. I still can't belive it, terrorism is something I'll never understand.

History IS fascinating and human neings are the only ones who make the same mistake more than once, we don't learn. Freedom of speech and opinion are the base to any regime based on people.

It's crazy how we all remember that day so clearly, what we did and how it felt. Terrorism is impossible to understand and still part of humanity, strange nature we have.

A blessing because I needed to be in front of a TV all the time knowing what was happening. It was touching and terrible but I agree with you, there's a lot of stuff that hurted me deeper and closer.

It's a testament to the strength of the human spirit that we will ourselves to continue to move ahead despite, or maybe even because of, all the opposition and resistance we face. I think what you've written is also a poignant reminder of how we must count our blessings and never forget that there are others who are less fortunate.

Jo... *hug*
We survive, grab what we have and keep on living, we find strenght because we have will.
Everyday someone reminds me what I have as a citizen it's a bless, my whole country fought decades to give us freedom, I know to cost of liberty and maybe for that I'll defend it more than anything.
The world we live it's ours, to change, to build and to destroy, it's time to take responsability.

I don't know if it's beautiful but I had to rant about a day I'll never forget, expressing my thoughts makes me feel better, I'm doing something even if not much.
The foot is almost fine! *yay*
