I need to get away from poetry

I am not a poet. The poems I have written in the past have all rhymed, ABABABCC. I like words that sound good, and overdramatic imagery ( Read more... )

That was very nicely put together. I think the simple lines make the poetic one pack that much more of a slam. I guess my problem is I would for once like to write a story that says something beautiful using very simplistic language, even though I know my strength is in crafting pretty sentences.

And a constant struggle is, of course: for the life of me, I can't figure out my "true" writing style. This is similar to the struggle I discussed with you, the one I have over subject matter. Recently it's been slowing me down because I am a perfectionist and I'm not happy with ANYTHING that I do. I guess I shouldn't let it stop me, though, and just keep on churning out stories.

You are probably right about the Hemingway.

Hi, you don't know me, but I had to comment... Speaking from the viewpoint of someone who loves language, dramatic imagery, and literary devices as well, I feel that you should never look down upon your ability to write beautiful prose. Imagery is probably the most concrete way of writing, as it brings the reader closer to the story, allowing the reader to feel the emotions your words bring.

And puns are awesome. XD

Haha, I just got this comment now since this account is linked to a different e-mail than the one I normally use (I need to change it)

But I want to say thank you for your encouragement. I think, as I write more and more, eventually I will find my own voice as a balance between the two.

And, if it's what I love, why fight it, right?

Anyway, thank you, stranger, I hope to speak with you again!
