Pop music no longer has a center.   That fact becomes obvious as you read through the other LJ'ers answers.  I see very few bands being mentioned by more than one person.  In order for there to be a "center" there needs to be unity.  (Of course, it's questionable if the Beatles were "really" the core in the 60s.  It's pretty well known that Herb

Very true. It'll be interesting to see what bands from "now" rise to the top in 20 years or so.
