The spinning camera work made me dizzy but was very appropriate for the feeling you get when you think your child is GONE. It's sad that the overall message of this ep seemed to be -Things aren't always what they appear to be. I haven't seen any other comments on the ep yet, so I'm hoping that there isn't a lot of Karen Matthews bashing. Of course, I don't condone her actions, but I can imagine being in her shoes- post partum psychosis, no parents to support you, no husband and a father-in-law you view as a threat to your child. Post partum blues was bad enough with a great deal of support, her situation had to be utter hell. Now, on to my other observations.
1. Greg. "It's like trying to id a swimmer from the ripples in a pool." Working with someone OTHER than Sara today, takes direction from Brass (I squeed a little over it, yes I'm a dork, ok?) and interviews the strange little man who owns Queenie. I took an instant dislike to the dog. It growled at Greg, it couldn't possibly be very smart. Hmph. And when he sees Queenie again, he was much politer than I would have been. Also, his hair has gotten longer and softer. I have a theory- ever since Nick went without shaving, Greg's gone without a haircut. Now that the stache is gone (! happy dance !), I'm betting Greg's hair will become shorter once again. Not that I mind it this way, *mumble* finger through it *mumble*.
2. Speaking of the stache-less Nick, he was the amazing disappearing man last night. One little scene to show us Kelly Gordon and then poof! He's gone until the last ten minutes of the show. And when he does return it's to process the car, something he's doing a lot of lately. And whoa. The scene with Kelly. He looks a little frightened but still concerned about her, as you expect him to be. His "You alright?" was the best delivered line of the night. The double meaning to her answer didn't hit me until I was in bed. "Perfect" Ding! Oh, fuuuuck. The plot just thickened, eh?
Double bonus for his little scene with Hodges, who asked without any snark whatsoever about Nick's visitor. The teasing after was warm and so right. Love you, Dave.
3. Ok, what is with Warrick and the John? At least he didn't have to reach into the toilet this time. Very glad the boys underwear only meant a very busy boy just wanted to keep playing. That Daly guy had to be seriously huge, did you see how Warrick had to look UP at him? There would be no sucker punch this time for Mr. Brown. He was not going to be intimidated. Now contrast that with his scene with the little boy Jesse/Adam. If you didn't have a thing for him before, you do now, don't you? Getting the things he needed from the boy but making it fun for him... Warrick's magic isn't only with the ladies. *sigh*
4. Cath. Karen Matthews did a great job with all the details because Cath didn't get any hint that there was something wrong, until she went into the garage. Though *I* was screaming at her to ask why a 6 year old boy was only 36-1/2 inches tall. My 3 year old girl? 40 inches. She might be a little above average people but there's no WAY she'd be taller than a 6 year old boy. *ahem* I'm still not sure whether that was intentional or just a dumb oversight by the writers.
Her reaction over the scene with the two mommies was great. She seemed genuinely confused as to what was going on. Because on one hand, she had already believed in Karen and now she had a feeling that Mrs. Esposito was telling the truth as well. What to do? Very tactfully get the answer through science. Well done, Cath. You kept your cool over a case involving a child.
5. Gil. "No one would ever tell me why." He was 9, a 'little guy' as Cath said when his father died. A little Gil isn't that hard to imagine when you remember his boyishness of earlier seasons. I miss him. The admission was odd, but it did fit the situation. His mother was doing something similar to what Karen Matthews was doing, with pretending that the father was still there at Christmas. I adore Cath for her reaction to it, shocked, then sympathetic and cognizant of the fact that this was moment she would most likely not get with Gil again- revealing something hard from his past.
6. Brass. A Marine?? Really? Did I miss this somewhere? I don't recall that in any of the bios. It fits, sort of. I just... well, he was obviously no career military man. Nam, maybe? Man, he's just a little nut that I want to crack open. Tell me more! Does anyone else just want to sit down with him and listen to the stories he has to tell?
And who says Brass isn't sensitive? He caught Grandpa's affliction right away. Such an awesome man. "English, please?" his best line.
7. Lastly- Archie! Wendy! Sara! yeah, I know she's full cast but... she wasn't to heavily used in this ep and she looked so pretty, even in that baseball hat. AND swaggering down the hall with Warrick.
Was anyone else bummed that the receptionist wasn't Judy? Of course, I also missed Sofia.
