She has decided that the panties belonged to Max. When you came across them, you went to confront him. He quickly snatched them from your hand, only to throw them in your face. This bought him enough time to make a get away, which would, in turn, allow him time to think up a semi plausible reason to own non-Lauren-sized panties.
