Truly guilty pleasure

Oct 15, 2007 15:00

Whenever someone shares their latest guilty pleasure, there is usually a sense of thinly veiled pride.  "Oh I can't believe I'm sharing this, but I truly love Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone.'" (me too, by the way)

But today I am genuinely confused by my attraction to Sheryl Crow's "My Favorite Mistake."  I've alway disliked Ms. Crow on so many ( Read more... )

I agree about 'My Favorite Mistake', but she's definitely not country-pop.

'Run, baby, bun', 'Riverwide', 'Love is a good thing', 'Redemption Day', 'ordinary morning', 'Weather Channel', 'The Book', , 'On the Outside', 'we do what we can', 'crash and burn', 'maybe angels', 'Strong Enough', 'Anything But Down', 'There Goes The Geighborhood', 'Am I Getting Through', 'Chances Are', 'Home', 'Wildflower', 'A change would do you good' etc. are not country-pop songs ;)

anyway, since you liked 'my favorite mistake', check out these live performances with Eric Clapton: http://youtube.com/watch?v=thobgh5PqoE - http://youtube.com/watch?v=3CYN-iBkKGY

cheers, Bob

That you, BW?

You're clearly more familiar with her catalog than I am.

Maybe I should have said "LA country influenced pop-rock" in the tradition of the whole laid back So Cal '70s country-rock scene (the Eagles, Jackson Brown, etc.). More than anything she strikes me as a more polished Lucinda Williams.

Is 'Geighborhood' a typo? 'Cause if it is, I'm claiming to coin the term (Gayborhood).

If the "BW" you were asking about is Bob Waller, then, no, that wasn't Bob Waller.

However, since you mentioned it, yes, you're right that whenever people (myself included) feign shame in confessing a guilty pleasure, they're usually actually pretty proud of it. You made me wonder if there are any guilty pleasures that I HAVEN'T bragged about yet, and I realized there is one...

I cry joyfully every time I hear that stupid, manipulative Lee Ann Womack song, "I Hope You Dance."

I've never told anybody that.

That song is definitely on my secret list of shameful joys -- especially the moment before the last verse where she takes that minute pause, right after the line "and if you ever get the chance to sit it out or dance" (pause) "DAaaaaaaaance!"

It's a shameless song and I'm a sucker for it. Since I've already copped to Ms. Clarkson's song, I'll just come clean: I also love fellow American Idol Carrie Underwood's song "Before He Cheats." Her performance on SNL kicked ass.
