Totally Crack!Coda to TW's Children of Earth

Totally crack Torchwood "Children of Earth" coda fic lies behind the cut.

This fic assumes a familiarity with the five episodes of Torchwood that just aired.  Even better if you have a knowledge of the team in S1 and S2.

The End Is Where We Begin

The hillside was quiet.  The two figures, a pregnant woman and her Welsh husband, had walked down the hill and, broken, driven away.  The dream had turned into a nightmare and was now gone.

Five minutes later, the tall, dark, handsome rogue winked back into view on the hillside.  He looked around then smiled, and whistled.

A young man in a suit with a tie appeared, beside a man in a leather jacket and a Japanese woman, who all walked quickly up the hill.  "It worked then, sir?" Ianto, for it was he, asked.

Jack grinned.  "Looks like.  About time, too.  Sorry, Tosh, Owen, that you had to play dead for longer than I thought but she just would not take the hint!"

"I'm freezing my arse off here, tell us on the way to the car what your cunning plan was," Owen grumbled but also smiled.

Jack stretched out his arms so Ianto was held on one side, and Owen and Tosh were enveloped on the other side.  "Well, I found you at the nuclear reactor as I expected, and I slid you into one of the cryogenic chambers in the middle of the night.  Gwen thought Tosh had died but I knew she was in a coma, so, same thing.  Let you both sleep while Ianto and I worked out the kinks of the plan."

Ianto smiled indulgently; he had mostly worked out the kinks and the Captain had been... appreciative.

"When the doctor at the hospital was rather suspicious of Torchwood and wanted to know more about us, we decided it was a great time to make it look like a worldwide crisis was going on.  We got the government's help to fake my death, and Gwen thought that the Hub was blown up, while she and Ianto escaped.  As if they would have survived if it had really blown up and collapsed."

"The Hub was almost destroyed?" Tosh was horrified.  Her life's work had been there.

"Hush, of course not, it's perfectly fine," Ianto reassured her.

"The point is, Gwen thinks it is," Jack said, and continued.  "She thought I was encased in concrete, and Ianto freed me.  Of course, I just covered myself a bit with dust, went naked and my wrists were shackled and she was so flustered she didn't stop to ask any questions.  Ianto recovered my greatcoat and gave Gwen and Rhys some clothes."

"So what about the children Ianto told us about, on our way here?" Toshiko asked, curious.

"Your sonic resonator worked beautifully.  It stopped every kid and made them chant, freaked her out totally.  Gwen really thought there was an alien menace on the way.  When Ianto and I went into Thames House, we injected everyone with a drug to slow down their vital signs, so she thought everyone, including Ianto, was dead.  Hell, she even thinks I killed my grandson, to save all the children on this planet, and that I can't bear to look at her since she's pregnant!"

Owen chuckled.  "Bet Alice isn't happy with you."

"She never is, but I sent her and Steven off on a long holiday so, one day, she might forgive me."

"So now what?" Toshiko asked as they arrived at the Torchwood SUV Ianto had hidden away safely.

"Now Gwen and Rhys move to Swansea, we never hear from them again, and we rebuild the team.  I was thinking that Lois might be a good person to hire, to help out on the administrative side and, Ianto, you can work full time in the field... when you're not making me coffee."

"Oi!" Owen protested.

"Coffee and tea for all of us." Jack corrected himself.

Ianto slightly bowed his head as Jack opened the driver's side door.  "As you wish, sir."  Jack wrapped his fingers over Ianto's as he started to profer the keys to him.

"You drive tonight.  You've earned it."  Jack strode around and then took the shotgun seat, secure in the knowledge that his team was back.
