if love was red then she was color-blind

You’re awake the moment the palm of his hand is on your throat, before the dark reveals the feel of fingers pressing down with a touch too hot almost cold burning a shiver into your skin.

You lie there.

So precariously still, you lie there.

A thin stream of light escapes the narrow gap beneath the curtains drawn over the window sill. Above you, he breathes in and closes his eyes. Yet when they open, a flicker of something else comes out. It’s not quite Naruto. Neither is it fully the demon inside him, but you don’t will down the familiar flare of chakra swirling behind your temples.

The colour of his eyes lingers somewhere in between, red seeping to curtail the edges of blue, his gaze aloof unremitting in the only light afforded in the room.

Your brother’s name is a whisper in the back of your mind. Itachi becomes a subconscious thought unbidden-the red of those eyes you don’t know how to forget-although the red of these eyes, this red could never belong to Itachi, and the fingers slow to curl remind you they don’t fully belong to Naruto, either.

There’s a slight gape to his mouth. His lips parted but unmoving display the slightest hint of sharp teeth. Another glimmer of red almost makes his eyes glow in the dimmed light. Sliding along your throat, the hand bearing down hoists your chin, against the bed forces back your head with fingers yanking your hair shoving the right side of your face into the sheets.

The awkward angle lays bare the back of your neck. Exposed is the absence of a brand no longer there, and above you he stills, mouth open hovering near your cheek, the timbre of his breathing low, uneven, harsh in the transitory calm.

You count his breaths. One by one each inhale, each invasive exhale a hollow imprint left on your skin.

A low snarl erupts from his chest. He grabs your chin, jerking your head forward to face him again before his hand returns to your throat.

You don’t move. You don’t blink.

He stares.

Through the dark, he watches you.

O_o

Well, at least I'm finally getting somewhere with this fic. There's a bunch more I need to go through and reorganise, but I'm going to push myself to finish it for good. Soon. Hopefully. idk. I'm not as big into Naruto as I used to be.
