Well, I guess tax day is officially tomorrow, and rather than fill this post with a hate filled rant around this time of year like I usually do, perhaps it may be better to provide something a little more thought provoking ( Read more... )

I am almost loathe to reply cause I have the feeling people will disagree with me and want me to defend my opinions, and I know I will not be able to adequately defend them which will lead to me being frustrated with this post... (apparently I think I am psychic)

I would say chop the taxes, cut military involvement and let peace reign. Although that being said we dont know that we wouldnt have had alt. military issues because maybe by not using fed. taxes to build up our military we would have become a target for countries that are trying to prove themselves. Making ourselves easy pickings for everyone else isnt exactly the best course of action either. But all in all I would cut the taxes.

Ok, maybe I should reclarify. I'm not saying that wars or bad stuff won't happen. The main important point to me is that our government would not be running around making things exponentially worse. Now, if you don't believe that the world would overall be better off without the US government involvement, then obviously the premise fails and well the argument ends there ( ... )

It's hard to imagine what exactly the US would be like without federal taxes. Some of the things I would be for, like no Social Security, welfare, medicare, etc. Other things would become more difficult - one of the biggest that comes to mind would be no public schools. No state funded universities. I suppose school systems might still survive through state taxes? Assuming that academic institutions were still around, they would be vastly changed - so much of academia runs either directly off of federal funds, or downstream from federal funds. No military means that a huge chunk of our current businesses would be kaput - defense spending trickles down through a massive portion of our economy ( ... )
