Breaking up with someone, but wanting to remain really good friends with them, is the hardest kind of breaking up, I think. I've been there; telling someone to screw off is easy, but there needs to be a definitive layer of delicacy to the treatment of the situation that you're in. If you realized that you really just want to be good friends, then you absolutely did the right thing by ending the romantic aspect of it now. Despite the connections we make with people, sometimes we have to tell them what they don't want to hear...and honestly, we don't want to say it, but it needs to be done.

You're not a jerk for doing this, so don't sweat that too much. I think the child in you might be sour at first, but he'll grow to understand it.

yea, i broke up with my bf in my last relationship, kinda the same thing, i liked him as a friend more than romantically. but the being the "breaker upper" made me feel so wretched and i did cry. but you know what, that feeling goes away as you rebuild the friendship (which i too did stay friends wit my Ex). so there is hope:) *huggs* miss u Danny!

Well, I was actually going to be a jerk and tell you that you are a woman. Trying to break up and still be friends! So now I feel like a jerk. Would the young you appreciate the current you? I think the young you would be more confused than anything. Danny boy went from skipping a grade, having an article professionally published on a project he conducted, who excelled in math and science, ends up in theatre? I don't think the little you would know what's going on. Eep, this is sounding dirty. Or really stupid. Either way, your reference to nachos at the end has made me hungry.
