If people fear knowledge, then they will avoid the truth, the truth being that the church is bullshit. If people remain ignorant they are easier to control. Western religions all rely on giving up logic for faith, and as soon as you turn your brain off, you'll believe anything that feels good. Modern western religion is a scaled back version of the old system, we no longer have theocracies which exercise direct control, but Bush is still exploiting the faith of the majority. Any time someone tells you to believe something solely on faith, they're either controlled or trying to control you.

Carly says: my personal take (which I believe isnt that far from the jewish idea, but I cannot say it is what the jewish ideology believes).......is that adam and eve first were not completely perfect, and that yes knowledge made them loss what perfectedness they had. however, I do not believe that peopl are born with original sin........why do we need to repent for what people did thousands of years ago? plus, god already punished the human race....males have to work and women give birth, why then should we be concerned with another sin? it is true that we are knowledgable because of them, but we should not feel that it is our duty to repent the entire time for what happend in the past -- we are on earth to live, and through living we either do good or bad. some christians believe that when jesus was killed, he wipped away original sin and now people arent born sinful anymore. -- but thats up to certain christians to decide what they believe.

Kent: u are thinking about it wrong....satan lied to eve and told her that if she ate from the tree that she would not die....that was the lie because god warned them that if they ate from the tree they would die. its not to say that the knowledge of god was in one fruit....it was just a test of their obedience to him. you think if god was tryin to keep his knowledge away from man he would put it in a fruit
me: i asked another friend this question and she said: basically it means that without knowledge of good and evil (what the fruit held) people are innocent; with knowledge people lose innocence which means they are no longer "perfect"
Kent: wrong....there would be no evil if satan did not rebel. man would only know good. if adam and eve did not listen to satan then we would all be perfect today. because of their sin we are imperfect. but there is nothing wrong with knowledge
